Available Wide Main Drum Options for Customization
Our wide main drum is available in three TPI options to match your specific fiber needs:
- 54 TPI (Coarse): Ideal for coarse wool and other thick fibers.
- 72 TPI (Standard): Best suited for common wool types.
- 120 TPI (Fine): Perfect for delicate fibers like cotton, alpaca, and angora.
Each wide main drum allows you to tailor your carding experience, enabling you to work with a variety of fibers efficiently.

Each wide main drum package comes with everything you need for easy installation:
- Main drum with attached carding cloth
- Steel shaft with pre-mounted O-rings
- Pulley already attached
These components ensure you can quickly swap out your drum for a smooth and uninterrupted carding session.
How to Swap the Wide Main Drum on Your Carder
Simple Steps for Changing Drums
- Remove the handle using the provided Allen key.
- Unfasten the 4 screws with the Allen key.
- Take off the 2 wooden fixers with bearings from the old drum.
- Lift out the old drum.
- Remove the drive belt.
- Insert the new wide main drum, ensuring the drive belt is placed on the small pulley before securing it.
- Mount the 2 wooden fixers back onto the carder using the 4 screws.
- Twist (cross) the drive belt onto the small drum.
- Tighten all screws, ensuring the gap between the two drums is the thickness of a credit card. Make sure the teeth on both drums do not touch.
- Re-attach the handle, ensuring the pins do not touch and are positioned backward.
Important Considerations When Changing the Wide Main Drum
For optimal performance, keep these tips in mind when swapping your wide main drum:

The TPI of the wide main drum should either match or be coarser than the Lickerin drum. Recommended configurations are: - 54 TPI Lickerin – 54 TPI Main Drum
- 54 TPI Lickerin – 72 TPI Main Drum
- 72 TPI Lickerin – 72 TPI Main Drum
- 72 TPI Lickerin – 120 TPI Main Drum
- 120 TPI Lickerin – 120 TPI Main Drum

Make sure that the pins do not touch each other and that both drums are oriented correctly, with the pins pointing backward.
