- Unfasten the 4 screws with the Allen key.
- Take off the 2 wooden fixers with bearings from the old drum.
- Lift out the old drum.
- Remove the drive belt.
- Insert the new drum, placing the drive belt on the small pulley before securing it.
- Mount the 2 wooden fixers back onto the carder using the 4 screws.
- Cross (twist) the drive belt onto the small drum.
- Tighten all screws, ensuring the distance between the two drums is equal to the thickness of a credit card. Make sure the teeth on both drums don’t touch.
- Re-attach the handle, ensuring the pins don’t touch and are pointed backward.
Important Considerations When Changing Drums
To ensure proper operation, remember the following:
-
The TPI of both drums should match, or the small drum should be coarser than the main drum. Recommended configurations include: - 54 TPI Lickerin – 54 TPI Main drum
- 54 TPI Lickerin – 72 TPI Main drum
- 72 TPI Lickerin – 72 TPI Main drum
- 72 TPI Lickerin – 120 TPI Main drum
- 120 TPI Lickerin – 120 TPI Main drum

-
Ensure that pins on both drums do not touch, and make sure they point backward. Following these steps will ensure optimal carding.
